Daniel Day-Lewis might be set for the lead in Nine, a film adaptation of a musical that will be directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha). Fans should
still hold their breath, however, according to the Weinstein Co., who is behind
the film. The following is not set in stone.
Wait—let’s back up a minute: Daniel Day-Lewis might be the
lead in a
Marshall
musical? Take a moment; let that sink in. Lewis would be playing the role of Guido
Contini, a middle-aged film director who is caught juggling his personal life,
professional life and all the women that includes. Actresses tentatively on the
roster include
Marion Cotillard,
Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz and
Judi Dench, according to
Variety.
The film is based on a theater musical that was based on Federico
Fellini’s 1963 film 8½. The script has seen many tweaks and variations
throughout the reincarnations that followed, including rewrites by Michael
Tolkin and Anthony Minghella.
