David Byrne to play "The Songs of Byrne and Eno" this fall

| | Comments (0)

Many adjectives could be used to describe David Byrne: Innovative, erudite, prolific, open-minded. Perhaps the most appropriate, however, is "busy"—we recently reported on both his upcoming interactive musical installation, Playing the Building, and a future release he's been working on with longtime friend and collaborator Brian Eno (who just celebrated his 60th birthday!).

While no further details have emerged about the upcoming Byrne/Eno "electronic gospel" album supposedly due out sometime in 2008, the first of Byrne's fall dates trickled out this weekend—a Sept. 20 show at Atlanta's Chastain Park Amphitheatre, dubbed "David Byrne: The Songs of Byrne and Eno."

Over at the Luaka Bop forum, label president Yale Evelev confirmed that while it's true that the upcoming Byrne tour will "be comprised of the material Eno was involved in with the Talking Heads plus the new album David and Brian are finishing up now," Eno himself will not join Byrne on the road. In addition to the project with Byrne (not to mention the upcoming Coldplay album), Eno is rumoredly working with ambient musician Jon Hopkins (scroll down to "Just Music") on a score for Peter Jackson's upcoming adaptation of the Alice Sebold book The Lovely Bones.

To kill some time while waiting for information on both the album and the tour, get lost in the eternal Internet rabbit-holes created by Byrne, starting with this weekend's New York Times op-ed tribute to artist Robert Rauschenberg and continuing over to his personal journal, where one could conceivably hop to his Dec. '07 Wired magazine article about "survival strategies" for musicians and listen to... who else? Byrne and Eno. Having a conversation about the music industry, no less.
