Daytrotter Radio premieres on Philly’s WXPN

Daytrotter.com founder Sean Moeller recently hosted the first edition of a new weekly radio segment for the University of Pennsylvania’s noncommercial radio station WXPN.

The weekly 30-minute show is called Daytrotter Radio, and will air Wednesday evenings at 10:30 p.m. The program will feature exclusive recording sessions with up-and-coming indie bands obtained by the music and arts-focused website. The show will be broadcast by WXPN throughout the Delaware Valley and central Pennsylvania, and will also be available via online streaming on the radio station’s three websites: XPN.org, YRockOnXPN.org, and XPoNentialMusic.org.

Music critic Moeller decided to launch a music-themed website from his home base of Rock Island, Ill., in 2006. The premise for Daytrotter was simple: invite bands into the studio, ask them to record a few original songs and post the resulting sessions on the site. Moeller approached music engineer Patrick Stolley, web developer Mark Hurty and a handful of his favorite illustrators with the idea, and the team moved full speed ahead. On March 23, 2006, the first Daytrotter Session, featuring Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, was posted on the site.

Daytrotter’s partnership with WXPN looks like a good fit for both parties, as well as each of their audiences. “All of us -- that's read as all four of us -- here at Daytrotter headquarters spend considerable time listening to David Dye's World Cafe program, remarking on how our adopted friends in White Rabbits or Langhorne Slim sound as they're getting interviewed by the man,” Moeller said. “We've got tremendous respect for what WXPN does for musicians and we're thrilled to be able to share some of their air, bringing our unique analog recordings to a bigger audience.”
