Flash Gordon follows comic-book suit, hits big screen

| | Comments (0)
Not sure if you've noticed, but lately, a lot of the big blockbusters have been based off of old comic books. Beloved for their special effects, action sequences against the "bad guy" and nifty outfits, guys flock to these movies in droves, bring (drag?) along their girlfriends and put them at the top of the box office.
Add one more to the list that also includes Batman, Iron Man, The Hulk (two of 'em!) and Spider-Man. Sensing that they could really be onto something, Sony Pictures has just won their bid to turn Flash Gordon, a comic from the '30s, into a live-action film.

The plot of Flash Gordon involves a "handsome polo player" being kidnapped and taken to the planet Mongo, where he has to face Ming the Merciless, its evil ruler. There is no word yet on any actors involved. However, Breck Eisner is set to direct, with Neil Moritz producing.

This is not the first time anyone has tried their hand at taking Flash out of the newspaper and onto the screen. It has been both a TV series on the SciFi channel, as well as a movie in the '80s starring Sam Jones.
