Jimmy Eat World heads on tour, re-releases Bleed American

| | Comments (3)

It's been a long, winding road for Jimmy Eat World. The emo dudes have turned into monsters of mainstream rock with an unlikely career that's seen them go from scrappy, upstart high-schoolers to the biggest thing since The Continental Baking Co. started making a pastry called the Twinkie. The band also just finished its co-headlining tour with a little group called Paramore. JEW keeps on truckin' and the band has a number of dates lined up for those hot summer days that are oh-so-close.

The band also just re-released its 2001 album Bleed American. You might recall that record for "The Sweetness" and "The Middle," two songs that hardly received any radio play in 2001 and certainly weren't on MTV, like, 24/7. *sarcasm* For the deluxe edition of the record, the band added a number of b-sides, demos and unreleased tracks to a second bonus disc and revived the album's original title. (You may recall that the band changed the name of the record from Bleed American to Jimmy Eat World in the wake of 9/11.) And we know what you're thinking, Mr. Hipster Indie Snob. But when push-comes-to-shove, you know in your heart of hearts that "The Middle" was a damn fine pop song, "Sweetness" was catchy as hell, and "Bleed American" basically laid the groundwork for every emo-screamo-hobocore-whatever band that followed. You can poo-poo the band all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that all this is true. We here at Paste do not tolerate back talk.

I hate to be a little stickler, but that record is gold to me, and the song is called "Sweetness." No 'the' needed.

Oops! Fixed. Thanks for reading...

Damn fine album, I must say. I revisit Bleed American & Clarity at least once a month and it never seems to get old. Sad that such a great band has been neglected by its core because of how embarrassing the 'genre' they helped create has become...
