Listen to The Avett Brothers' new song, "Murder in the City"

Just to whet your EP anticipation, North Carolina grasspunks The Avett Brothers have released "Murder In The City," the first single from their upcoming The Second Gleam. Listen to it here:

Murder in the City - The Avett Brothers

Despite the morbid title, the song is a lilting acoustic charmer with lyrics pondering the permanence of family ties. It's available online now, in advance of the disc's release on July 22.

Featuring six tracks, The Second Gleam is the second in The Avett Brothers' The Gleam EP series (clever title, no?) and follows the May release of 2007's excellent Emotionalism LP.

These guys just can't write a bad song. Everything, I mean everything I ever hear from the Avetts is just wonderful.

Incredible song. For the mix, I kind of wish they'd brought Seth Avett's backing vocals up in the mix-- when the brothers harmonize at equal volume and in the same tone, it's heaven-sent.

I agree with Gar, EVERYTHING they do is wonderful. Great harmonies with great song writing. Love the "Grunge Grass" sound.

I've seen them twice (soon to be 3 times) and they are amazing, lyrically and in performance. If you've never seen them, they are worth a pretty good road trip!

Saw them perform this song live, and it was amazing. Its been said several times, but just to beat the horse a little bit more, every song they write is amazing. They put so much emphasis on their lyrics and harmonies.

On a side note, the line "I wonder which brother is better..." is hilarious live, especially since Seth walked on the stage at the very moment.
