Miracle 3 and R.E.M. collaborate to baseball album

Baseball has fueled great works of theater, literature and even dance. But the moment of the perfect baseball-related collaboration is almost upon us, as North Carolina’s own Yep Roc Records prepares the release of an album by The Baseball Project entitled Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails.

The Baseball Project is a partnership between some indie-rock heavyweights. The masters of ceremony are Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5, R.E.M, Young Fresh Fellows) and Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Gutterball, Danny & Dusty, Miracle 3), but they get significant help from drummer Linda Pitmon (Miracle 3, Golden Smog) and Peter Buck, whom you may know as the guitarist  for a little band called R.E.M.

The album, which will be released on July 8, takes on such memorable targets as Ted Williams, Mark McGwire, and Jackie Robinson, as well as many more obscure (but still worthy) legends. This summer, you can rock out and get a baseball education at the same time.
