Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Flaming Lips to honor The Who

What do Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl and Wayne Coyne all have in common? These three shaggy-haired frontmen of big-name alternative-rock outfits have signed on with their respective bands to pay homage to The Who for this year’s VH1 Rock Honors.

In addition to their performances, The Who (Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend) will play the grand finale. The show will be taped on July 12 at the Pauly Pavilion in Los Angeles and will air on July 17 at 9 p.m.

Unlike the first two Rock Honors, which honored multiple artists in the same show, VH1 decided to honor Daltrey and company singularly this year because of their “revolutionary and era-defining influence on rock music.” This year's show will mark the Foo Fighters' second Rock Honors appearance, having performed in 2006’s show that paid tribute to Def Leppard, Judas Priest, KISS and Queen. Last year’s show honored Genesis, Heart, Ozzy Osbourne and ZZ Top.
