Robyn Hitchcock announces new five-disc set
Quirky British music icon, Robyn Hitchcock, is gearing up to release another collection from his lengthy creative repertoire. Luminous Groove, a five-disc set due for release August 5 on Yep Roc Records, focuses on Hitchcock's post-Soft Boys years playing with the Egyptians.
“It’s odd for me to think of the 1980s as being in the
past,” Hitchcock said in a statement. “Back then, they were a baleful future
that we refugees from the 1960s were marooned in. I never thought I’d get out alive from Reagan, Thatcher and
shoulder pads. But time wins
again.”
Luminous Groove serves as the second installment in a series of Hitchcock box sets beginning with 2007’s I Wanna Go Backwards. Three of Groove's discs include studio albums (Fegmania! and
Element of Light) and live recordings (Gotta Let This Hen Out!), complete with new bonus songs. The other two discs, collectively titled Bad Case of
History, offer a sampling of previously unreleased studio work as well as
unheard live recordings. And for
the purists out there, Luminous Groove will also be offered as an eight-LP
vinyl set.
