Spike Lee to make Michael Jordan doc

If Space Jam satiated your desire to watch basketball movies for all time, especially those featuring Michael Jordan, bypass this here news item. But wait! This is a documentary. Spike Lee, illustrious maker of such films as Malcolm X, Summer of Sam and Inside Man is set to direct a full-length doc about His Airness himself, Variety reports. The film will be produced by Lee's 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks with financing from the NBA, which will also be providing camera footage from Jordan's 2001 to 2003 seasons, the final two of his basketball career.

Since Jordan's gotten rather comfortable playing himself in feature films and commercials, apparently, this one should only be a departure for him in that it's a documentary and there probably won't be animated evil aliens or deranged movie stars to deal with. Not deranged like this guy, at least:

Lee is currently at the Cannes Film Festival promoting his most recent film, Miracle at St. Anna. The WWII drama, based on the James McBride book of the same name, explores the lives of African American soldiers and will release Oct. 10 in the U.S. Other recent projects of his include a previously reported project with Nokia. The groundbreaking film, made up of cell phone submissions from the movie-making public, is in progress at NokiaProductions.com.
