Lost amidst all of the teen lust overdrive of director Greg Mottola's Superbad was a pretty killer soundtrack, which boasted prime slices of vintage soul, classic rock and The Rapture.
But Mottola might have outdone himself with his next project, the amusement park-bound comedy Adventureland. Supplying the tunes for the film will be none other than the mighty Yo La Tengo. Apparently, the veteran indie-rock trio is getting deeper into movies. Its film credits before this project include composition work for Junebug and Old Joy, both of which happened to feature Will Oldham as an actor.
Oldham isn't appearing in Adventureland (as far as we know), but the cast boasts some old favorites in Jesse Eisenberg (Noah Baumbach's alter-ego in The Squid and the Whale), SNL players Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, Freaks and Geeks' Martin Starr, and Ryan Reynolds, whose participation has some people very excited.
The film takes place in 1987, with a recent college graduate (Eisenberg) stuck working at an amusement park for spending cash. Fortuitously enough, the gig turns out to be a crash course for adult life. Adventureland is due to hit theaters in August.
Meanwhile, Yo La Tengo is gearing up for a European adventure in June, and has one American appearance scheduled in September. Oft-overlooked YLT bassist James McNew is also getting his name out there, through both his Dump side-project and touring with Daniel Johnston.
