Things are looking up for Dwayne Carter. He's one of the hottest acts in the rap game right now, and the recently-released Tha Carter III is projected to be one of the biggest-selling albums of the year. And for good reason: with singles like "A Milli" and "Mr. Carter," Wayne has proven he's earned his position in hip-hop's pantheon. The album has its curiosities though, like final track "Don'tGetIt", an epic 10-minute diss where Wayne stops rapping about 3 minutes in and waxes philosophic on race relations, drug sentencing, the dismal state of education in America and political figureheads like Al Sharpton.
Wayne tears into Sharpton for almost three minutes with the kind of
vitriol you'd expect between Nas and Jay-Z (or at least 50 Cent and The Game).
"You see, you are no MLK. You are no Jesse Jackson. You are nobody. To
me. You're just another Don King. With a perm," Wayne snickers. Sharpton was quick to respond, and issued his first response exclusively to Current's The Fix:
“While some of the rappers don’t like the fact that Rev. Sharpton has been
leading marches against the use of the N, B, H words and NAN’s stance against
the degradation of women in music, a Gallup poll released last week revealed
that Rev. Sharpton has a 50% approval rate among African Americans. So why
dignify a response to one rap artist who doesn’t even say anything
substantive?”
Yikes. When you've got two people like Wayne and Sharpton who have built their careers on controversy, the only possible outcome of a fight like this is enough beef to choke the Wu-Tang Clan. Still, this does mean that we'll be able to look forward to a Wayne/Sharpton collab track five years down the line. Hopefully auto-tune will still be en vogue, because what could be cooler than Sharpton dropping rhymes like T-Pain?

i think lil wayne although might be defending his craft he should understand that degrading women and using of the word n*$**@# is wrong. And the fact that Al sharpton has paved the way for many blacks maybe not a big impact as mLK or jessie jackson. Wayne went to far but the cd is banging though less the that 3 minutes
Lil Wayne just did what any other rapper would do when they feel threaten by a political figure. They speak they mine on tracks that they pay millions to produce. I mean he did not become politically correct, but neither does Rev. Al in some of his speeches about the generalizations that he places on rappers and the black culture in general. I know neither one of them personally and I'm sure no one will but I think they both need to just continue with their careers and try not to cross paths on views
F*** yall Al Sharpton loving b**** a** n***** because what is it to Al Sharpton to get in s*** who the f*** made him god its not s*** to him what comes out 1's mouth just worry about your got d*** self!
that album is the f'ing shii espeacially that track cause hes real talking so dont waste your time on web sites like this trying to rain on his MILLION album sale
I LOVE that song - I thought it was called "misunderstood" but anyway, Lil Wayne please get Bill Cosby next, because I am tired of him too.
lil wayne gotta big a s s d i c k for saying what he said...that niggas crazy i mean like he leans like no other..got dammit wayne u done it again
Dwanye Carter is a master at what he does
he makes hits and also speaks the truth. ppossibley more respect then mr. sharpton but over the song itself if u take ten min out your life to listen to it. is a grat song and spits flames towards al and everyday ppl
Well Jeff is a fuckin retard, and all Sharpton did with his "response" was make himself and any niggers like him look like fools. What Sharpton said made no sense, because, all he did was say he isn't dignifying Lil Wayne's insightful and awesome song with a response. However, he did respond to it by saying anything at all. Regardless of what Sharpton said, he would have been better off not saying anything at all 'cause Lil Wayne was capable of writing half a fuckin song about this dipshit. All Sharpton could say was...I'm bigger than you by not saying anything even though I just said something stupid. Bent
