Dave Matthews Band works on new album, tours

June 9, 2008  |  5:00pm
It seems like only yesterday, but that's why we don't trust our intuition. It was actually four whole years ago that that Paste profiled Dave Matthews, calling him "just your ordinary rock star." All those years later, he's still ordinary, but in the very best way. That's why, despite the millions of albums sold and trillions of concerts performed, the least egotistical band in rock will make what could be its most collaborative album ever.

Recently, Billboard.com spoke to violinist Boyd Tinsley, who said that "every song was written by everybody at the same time - we've never really done that before." The band hasn't released an album since 2005's Stand Up, so it's comforting that the members have not suddenly been transformed into divas who want to practice their drum solos and electronic oceanic soundscapes.

Indeed, Tinsley also said that the still-untitled album will be loyal to the band's history, since the music "sounds very much like DMB, but like songs you've never heard before." But you don't need Boyd to tell you these things. Check out the band on tour and assess the collaboration for yourself.
