Eddie Izzard adds benefit show, continues Stripped tour

Comedian Eddie Izzard has added a New Orleans benefit show to his nationwide Stripped tour, according to his website. Izzard kicked off the current tour April 28 in Boston. He recently announced the addition of a special date in New Orleans to benefit the city’s Neighborhood Housing Services . All proceeds from Izzard’s June 23 performance in the Big Easy will be donated to the organization, which helps low and moderate income citizens become sustainable homeowners.

The British funnyman made a name for himself stateside with his 2000 HBO special Dress to Kill, during which he famously spoofed the Queen’s army with the quip “Cake or death?” and performed in drag. He won two Emmys for the special, and became a household name for his one-of-a-kind blend of political satire and rambling first person narratives.

He has since made a name for himself outside of the world of stand-up comedy with acting roles in films including Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean's Thirteen and Across the Universe, and as the star of FX’s darkly comedic series The Riches, currently in its second season.
