Fresh Weeds: Little Boxes Dimebag #1 on sale tomorrow

If ever there was a reason to listen to the same song 10 times in a row, this is probably it. Weeds, the popular Showtime program chronicling the life of a suburban drug dealer/mom and her family, will release its Little Boxes Dimebag #1 tomorrow (June 17). The digital-only album features 10 versions of the show's iconic theme song, "Little Boxes," which is performed by a different artist at the start of each episode. This collection includes versions by Rise Against, Engelbert Humperdinck, Randy Newman and Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters, amongst others.

"Little Boxes" effectively (and pretty creepily) communicates the conformity the show's characters face every day in their town of Agrestic. The song has since been retired because of plot change within the series. "With Nancy moving out of Agrestic and out of her 'little box,' it just didn't make sense to stick with 'Little Boxes,'" said music supervisor Christopher Noxon in a statement. "We tried to make it work, but in in the end I think it's a credit to the producers that they recognized that the show, like Nancy, has moved up and on."

Artist tracklisting:
1. Randy Newman
2. Angelique Kidjo
3. Maestro Charlie Barnett
4. Aidan Hawken
5. Kinky
6. Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters
7. Englebert Humperdinck
8. Peggy Honeywell
9. Goat
10. Rise Against

Season Four begins on Showtime tonight (June 16), and will be shortly followed by the release of the soundtrack to the show's third season July 8 by Lionsgate Pictures. This disc's list of performers reads like a recent indie-rock catalog, and will feature Kevin Nealon, Beirut, Oh No! Oh My!, Illinois, The Dresden Dolls, Ween, Page France and That 1 Guy.
