HBO's John Adams coming to DVD on June 10

| | Comments (0)
John Adams, the HBO miniseries that starred Paul Giamatti as the founding father himself and Laura Linney as his wife Abigail, will be hitting video shelves (and perhaps your home entertainment shelves) on June 10.
Even for those who've already seen the series during its original run on HBO, the three-disc DVD set offers some wonderful surprises. It includes historical guides, a guide to the making of the show, and a documentary about writer David McCullough, whose book John Adams provided the foundation for the miniseries. When the series first appeared on the air last year, it was heralded in part because of its meticulous attention to historic detail (even though some aren't quite as taken with the portrayal of Adams as an über-hero).

Regardless, John Adams the series is a brilliant look at the life of one of our country's founders, who is often overlooked in favor of prolific historic figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. As Adams himself once said, "Trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty." We're not really sure how that fits with the rest of the story, but isn't it a great quote?

Check out the DVD trailer for the show here, and a conversation with Giamatti and Linney here.
