Kanye West - “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”
Read any good blogs lately? Kanye has, and he's been writing some posts of his own as well.
Admittedly, there is a certain charm to an artist who rallies around his critics and naysayers, channeling this negative energy into something new. And it felt like that’s what Ye was doing after his performance at Summer Jam. However bizarre his reaction seemed, the idea that he felt like the night belonged to Wayne and he felt compelled to go straight back to the studio to make something to blow everyone away was sort of exhilarating, a competitive spirit potentially returned that had once defined hip-hop. (Lord knows what this guy can do when inspired.) But apparently all that lies between exhilaration and, well, Kanye being Kanye, is a very thin line.
Yesterday Kanye wrote an untitled post dealing with his criticism at Bonnaroo addressed in the first line to “people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall.” He calls the Bonnaroo ordeal “the worst insult I’ve ever had in my life.” And did we mention all but the first few lines exercise his caps-lock option? The whole thing largely supercedes parody. You'll just have to read it for yourself.
On the glass-half-full side, the aforementioned Daft-Punk-sampling track does state that what doesn’t kill Kanye can only make him stronger. And judging solely by the fact that Mr. West was "typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air," dude should be much much stronger after all this blows over.

Actually...I just followed the link to his blog and the only thing he seems irate with was that people had said he gave a lackluster performance. He might have a point to be angry at the festival coordinating for that. All of the things he listed that went wrong including his set being vandalized and not being given enough time to get his stuff set up, kind of falls back on the scheduling of acts by Bonnaroo. Yes, Kanye over-reacts and yes he's extremely dramatic at times but isn't that what makes his music so great?
Kanye requested that spot - its not what Bonnaroo scheduled for him. This all falls on him and his crew. Kanye requested the change to the original schedule so that he could be on stage in Atlanta at the birthday jam the same night, so I don't buy any of this BS about him staying up 3 days straight working on his performance. If I were Superfly or AC Entertainment I'd have my lawyers all over this rant.
You know somebody is pissed when they end a sentence with 93 (yes, I counted them) exclamation points.
I agree. The rant itself was somewhat inspiring. He may have a point that many of us forgot about; that Bonnaroo could be partly to blame. However, not once did he even mention that he was in Atlanta on Saturday night, so that right there makes the blog post rubbish.
Ahh. I was unaware of the birthday jam thing. I thought he was just scheduled randomly by the Bonnaroo folks. This does change things a bit.
What makes Kanye's bitching even worse, is the fact that he requested to be able to play on a similar (large) stage to jack johnson, because he didn't think it was fair. So, the bonnaroo organizers allowed him to play on a bigger stage if he waited til very late to play. Kanye is an asshole, because he disrespected his fans by not recognizing those that had waited for hours just to hear him, and then played 4 songs just to top it off.
He may have lost his mama, and pissed & moan about his
'palpable pain' to the world at large...but he has THE
most selfish soul on the Planet Earth. You should
NEVER ever invite him back to your fabulous, organized
& breathtaking event. He makes me want to spew, stick
pencils into my ears and rant & rave, he is sofa king
selfish. SO WHAT that Pearl Jam was on a roll &
perfomed an extra hour?? Get your jive-ass ghetto MF
tush up on stage, and SING. Give your fans & all
those wonderful people who stayed up late what they
freakin' came for (not to mention paid for!!)--some
damned music!!!
Give him a few years/decades to grow the fuck up. I
detest his arrogant, better-than-thou vibe that he
throws out into this world, over and over again. As
it is & seems to be with sooooo many of the American
gold-chain coated rap/hip-hop titty babies.
Such a baby! SUCH a baby boy. It's all about Kanye,
it's all about him. Let him STEW in his Reuters news
quote; "this is as angry as I will ever be" happy
horseshit. He has no idea of the anger that can be
experienced in this world that we live in today. Give
him some time. He has no business being involved in
your organized, mind-bending, ground breaking event.
Lock the baby ghetto boy into his bedroom for two or six years. Play NOTHING but James Brown, Louis Armstrong, Blind Lemon Jefferson. Pray to God on high he finally "gets it" and grows the fuck up.
Here endeth my rant.
Peace out,
Nancita
I don't question the man's drive and persistence to be the best... but man, that rant was nearly impossible to read and slightly irrational at parts.
I could see where his frustration would come from. But as a 'professional' and a man that seems to have plenty of experience in live shows, he should know that things don't always go accordingly, especially at such a MASSIVE event such as bonnaroo. But in the world of kanye, seems if it isn't perfect your a "fucking idiot".
This isn't anything new for this man. In a sick and twisted way, I have always admired his courage to say things that no one else would, and even his persona of being super arrogant. But after a few year of bashing people that are only trying to help you promote yourself and make you money, it gets old.
Be thankful you have these opportunities Mr. West.
kanye is the man. all of you mistake his passion for arrogance, and you dude's just love to jump on his shit all day long. ah well.
Wow. Kanye needs to stop acting like a diva and start acting more professional.Fans pay good money to see him and don't deserve a 2 hour hold up. Own up and stop blaming everyone else.
His performance was typical of someone that robs you in front of Walmart on Christmas Eve when your going to get the last Transformer doll for your kid...The steals your wallet, pisses on you, kick you in the head, and river dances on your ass. Somebody needs no check that n
Man, what a weak little man. It's like his ego has been replaced what he thinks are privleges. Why is a poser like that even at Bonnaroo? Why is he even being discussed at PASTE? Go away Kanye, and don't forget to take the rest of hip-hop culture with you. Your fifteen minutes is up. Say hi to Hammer for us.
Talking shit about Kanye is in for the season!
It was an annoyance but then again when it is the middle of the night and you are at a music festival how much does it really matter? It's not like anyone had anything else going on.
The subsequent bitchfest actually rubs me more than the delay. Kanye's right in saying the Bonnaroo organizers fucked up and should have said something.
