Tomorrow (June 19) night, The
Sundance Channel plans to set you up with a very intimate date. The venue: Abbey Road Studios, London. The soundtrack: Dashboard Confessional,
Mary J. Blige and James Blunt. The event: the premiere of the second season of Live From Abbey Road.
The show, which features three different artists in each episode, focuses on music rather than on the pyrotechnics, costumes and general over-the-top hugeness of a stage show. There’s no annoying TV host and no studio audience to kill the intimate mood.
According to producers Michael Gleason and Peter Van Hooke, each of the season’s 12 episodes will feature one “iconic act” that has been around for a while, a singer/songwriter, and a newer act performing three songs each. Last season, for example, one particular episode line-up included Jamiroquai, The Goo Goo Dolls and Damien Rice.
You don’t just get three measly songs out of this date, however. The rest of the hour is filled with personal interviews conducted inside Abbey Road Studios, opened in the 1930s and dedicated solely to producing some of the most well-known music in the world.
Below is the schedule for this season’s first five episodes. All episodes air on the Sundance Channel at 10 p.m. EST:
