Ludacris says new website is the end of the recording studio

Try to stay with us here. You're rolling down the street with your crew, and out of nowhere, Just Blaze appears in an alleyway, boombox on his shoulder. He turns it on, and the illest beat you've ever heard starts blasting. Before you know it, everyone is getting hyphy and you're freestyling like there's no tomorrow. "Damn," you think to yourself. "I need to be recording this right now!" Well, worry no more, future legendary MC, because in this implausible scenario, Ludacris has you covered.

Luda recently issued a press release revealing that his WeMix music website has teamed up with Disney-backed VoodooVox to create what he calls a "mobile recording studio" for WeMix users. Members of the website can use a phone as a mic to upload vocals, tracks and beats to the website, and then broadcast it worldwide. Ludacris boasts in his recent statement:

"The old way of making records is a thing of the past. A&R, marketers, the radio game, million-dollar videos, predictable producers—this system makes it really tough for new blood or new ideas to rise to the top. Using WeMix allows new artists to get their voice heard."

A YouTube for music recording, eh? Sounds promising, especially since this could finally start the much-touted democratization of music that the Internet was supposed to bring. Of course, it could go the other way and add troubling layers of complexity to the term "ringtone rap." Hope you all are ready for "Crank That" 2.0, 3.0, 4.0...
