Fandango recently bought Movies.com from Disney, and will be managing both sites' ticket sales and news releases. Movies.com was a joint venture with Fox helmed by Disney as part of their initial plan for online distribution of content, which has now been completely abandoned with the sale of the website. The venture never really took off and lingered as a film news website and ticket merchant, a policy Fandango will be continuing with a few tweaks.
Interestingly, this deal was only made possible by the surge of interest in online movie sales spurred by the opening of iTunes movie store. There's a familiar theme: Apple does something smart, and everyone rushes to copy it.
