The Zombies release retrospective, new tour dates

British pop-rockers The Zombies will be touring the U.S. and the U.K. to mark the 40th anniversary of their break-out 1968 album Odessey & Oracle.

The seed for this summer’s tour was planted when original Zombies Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone, Chris White and Hugh Grundy reunited for a three-night London concert series in March (the band’s fifth member, Paul Atkinson, passed away in 2004.) The band also released the retrospective album The Zombies and Beyond, featuring early hits such as “She’s Not There” and “The Time Of The Season,” as well as more recent solo recordings from Argent and Blunstone.

Argent and Blunstone will front The Zombies’ summer tour performances, backed by Keith Airey on guitar, Jim Rothford on bass and Steve Rodford on drums. Nostalgia may be the order of the day at the Zombies’ upcoming shows, especially when the band co-headlines several dates with '60s contemporaries The Blues Magoos and Jefferson Starship. Argent and Blunstones’ 2007 tour under the Zombies’ moniker garnered glowing reviews from American and British critics, though, suggesting the band might be able to avoid the disappointing ticket sales of acts like Journey and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
