Paste reports highlights from E3 2008

Paste games editor Jason Killingsworth has embarked on quite the educational field trip. He ditched his desk at Paste HQ last week for the land of RPGs, one-upping game providers, and feels-so-real-you-could-reach-out-and-touch-it graphics. You can check out the deets of his Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) experience on Paste's UpUpDnDn blog, but here is a sampling of his '08 highlights.

On the virtual rockstar front, it appears the Rock Band series has upped the ante for music licensing. For Rock Band 2, it nabbed a track from Guns N' Roses forthcoming and highly-anticipated Chinese Democracy and Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up In Blue" off Blood On The Tracks. Guitar Hero: World Tour will, however, will offer more of the full-band experience. It'll include a drum kit and Pro Tools-style mixing that will let players make multi-tracked music of their own.

Microsoft and Netflix have partnered up to allow XBox Live users (who are already Netflix subscribers) to download and watch flicks on their game consoles. Killingsworth also peeped the trailer for the long-awaited Spore (whose music was composed by Brian Eno!) and touched on the creationism-v.-evolution controversy the game might stir up. Click here to read his post, where he dishes about virtual dog sidekicks, iPod-enabled karaoke and oh-so-many game sequels.
