Dr. Dre has not had an album this millennium.
Since Dre's Chronic follow-up 2001 (which, against the rules of logic, actually came out in 1999), the world's population has risen by approximately 80 million people, and assumedly at least half of these people have released a mixtape with a Lil Wayne feature by now.
But word from Dre is Detox, his perpetual "Yeah, it'll definitely be out this year" of the last five years swan song, will definitely be out this year. "I'm just now -- over the last couple of months -- starting to feel that it's going to be right and it's something I can be proud of, and everybody is going to love it," Dre told USA Today. "I'm shooting for a November or December release." Good thing, too, because if this album wasn't coming out soon what would The Game rap about on his next album?
There are guest appearances slated from Lil Wayne, Nas, Jay-Z and others. Aside from the guest spots, Dre is also quite pleased with the drum work of the new album. "We have an entirely new thing going with the drums that's incredible, and we're still developing that," he said.
Oh, and his pal Snoop wants you to rest assured Detox will be worth the wait. "I was starting to doubt it myself, and then I went up in there and he played so much music for me it knocked my head off. ... I see what he got them waiting for," Snoop told Rolling Stone. "It's on and poppin'."
