Gucci taps into MGMT for spring threads

Be not ashamed of your uncontrollable urge to strut whenever you hear the song "Electric Feel." Turns out MGMT really was destined for the catwalk, and not just because of the two dudes' danceable beats, but their lean-hipster-dude threads as well. Just ask Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini. She recently dedicated her Spring 2009 menswear collection to the Brooklyn psychedelic synth-rock outfit.

Giannini must be really in tune with the youth (pun intended). Well, at least the ultra-privileged youth. She describes the line as one that illustrates, "the new way in which youth and luxury can seamlessly coexists," Men.Style.com reports. The line features brightly-colored and narrowly-tailored suits and other garments, often adorned with floral detailing.

MGMT's overall persona and sound inspired Gucci's new style, dubbed "hippie/gypsy chic." The opener for Oracular Spectacular, "Time to Pretend," seems to have been Giannini's main muse, particularly such lines as "this is our decision to live fast and die young." Appropriately, it played as the final song of the show.

If the boys can avoid the sophomore slump on Oracular's follow-up (currently in the works, as recently reported), perhaps they'll motivate another fashion mogul to design in their image.
