Actor, writer, and former Phantom Planet drummer Jason Schwartzman is taking on sleuthing, cast as the lead role in HBO's comedy pilot Bored to Death.
Given the green light by the cable giant earlier this month, the pilot features Schwartzman as an alcoholic 30-something writer in Brooklyn dealing with a nasty breakup.
In the spirit of getting over it and emulating his favorite writer Raymond Chandler, Schwartzman's character takes out an ad to play at being a Philip Marlowe- or Sam Spade-style private eye. Wackiness assuredly ensues.
Production is set to begin in September, as will filming for Judd Apatow's forthcoming Funny People, in which Schwartzman will star alongside Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler.
