Jimi Hendrix to appear in Guitar Hero

It's not like we're obsessed or anything. It's just, well, air-guitaring only goes so far, and we've got this personal connection to the whole thing, you know?

Earlier this month, we learned that there will not be a Metallica- or Beatles-themed Guitar Hero just yet. But then, good news for plastic-guitar-wielders like this one: one of the truly original Guitar Heroes will make an appearance soon.

This week, Activision and RedOctane announced that Jimi Hendrix will soon grandstand his way into the game, and players will be able to play using the man's likeness as an avatar. Even more, songs like "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Purple Haze" will be included in the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour.

Distracted as you may be by kissing the sky (this guy?) Guitar Hero's got a bigger master-plan in the works: future versions are to include a microphone and drum kit in order to go head to head with rival Rock Band.
