Argentinean songbird Juana Molina will release her fourth album Un Dia October 7 on Domino Records, featuring stripped-down instrumentation, bold rhythmic roots and some of the most personal lyrics she's ever written.
Molina recorded almost the entire album by herself in her home outside of Buenos Aires, with the sole aid of guitarist Gareth Dickson. One of her goals while writing songs for the record was to focus on rhythms, which she feared some listeners were missing on past albums.
"I noticed the rhythm in the music on previous records was tacit,” she said in a press release. “There, but concealed. Some people didn't feel there was any kind of rhythm at all! On this album I decided to make what was pretty obvious for me, more obvious to others, to bring it to the front. All that was insinuated in the past is now more tangible, hearable.”
The singer-songwriter grew up in Argentina, but her family was exiled to Paris when she was 12 years old. Her father was a Tango singer and her mother an actress, and Molina followed in both of their footsteps-- first as a comedic TV actress in South America before abruptly turning back to her music.
Molina may be playing some of her biggest venues yet while on tour with Feist this summer, but she still wants her music to resonate personally with each of her fans. “One day I will sing the songs with no lyrics and everyone can imagine for themselves if it's about love, disappointment, banalities or about Plato,” she said. “Un Dìa [one day]."
