Kanye West, Wyclef, Pharrell to perform for Barack Obama

| | Comments (0)
It's the worst-kept secret in politics these days that Barack Obama loves hip-hop. Whether he's name-checking Lil Wayne or getting that dirt off his shoulders, Obama has amassed an all-star cotérie of rappers willing to back the Democratic Party nominee. He even had Hova offering a voice of encouragement for voters in the Ohio primary, for cryin' out loud. The National can seem a little anemic in comparison to the C-E-O-of-the-R-O-C.
So maybe we shouldn't be all that shocked now that we're hearing Kanye West, Pharrell, and Wyclef Jean will be headlining at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August. Still, the political arena is one place where people usually can't denounce hip-hop fast enough. It's gonna be one hell of a shock to watch Howard Dean and the superdelegates try to halfheartedly bob their heads along to "Champion" or "Get 'Em High". We can only hope the performace will look something like this:

Our biggest worry about the whole thing? How will we know it's actually Kanye? Either that or the SQUID BRAINS running the show will keep them waiting til 4:00 in the morning for Kanye's set.

While you're waiting for Yeezy to make the DNC glow in the dark, here's some hip-hop tracks that cheerlead / namedrop Mr. Obama. Give 'em a listen if you can't get that Will.i.am song out of your head:

Common - "The People"
Lil Wayne - "Black Republicans"
Jay-Z  - "A Billi" ("A Milli" freestyle)
Nas - "Black President"
Talib Kweli - "Say Something"
