Brooklyn Psych-electo-poppers MGMT have announced plans for their sophomore record. Talking with 6 Music in the U.K. (where the band is bigger than Jesus), the fellas let slip that they're planning to record their next album this coming January. The final project should be out by this time next year. In a post-Glastonbury interview, Singer Andrew Van Wyngarden said:
"We’ve been longing to get in the studio for a while because we got out of it recording our last album about a year ago. So we’re definitely ready to start working on some new stuff but I think in January we’re gonna start recording and hopefully put an album out next summer."
The band—probably the most quintessentially Brooklyn
thing this side of ralphing up a Nathan's hot dog on the Cyclone—also
talked about its plans to improve its stage show, adding in all
those bells and whistles the duo currently does without. Careful, guys.
It might not seem like big thing to add in some dancers and/or a few
lights, but the next thing you know you've got a drumset that flips
upside-down and you're living up to your predictions in "Time to Pretend." Just a warning.
The
group also has what can politely be described as an ass-load of tour
dates coming up. They guys are currently prepping for their slots at Readings
and Leeds across the pond, but they'll be back in the States in the fall.
