Not to be left out of the music festival bonanza that is summer 2008, Denver, Colo., will host the first Mile High Music Festival this weekend on July 19 and 20. Five stages at Dick's Sporting Goods Park will hold approximately 50 bands, including headliners Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Dave Matthews Band.
Established national acts and Denver-area musicians alike are slated to fill out the festival lineup. O.A.R. will appear just before Tom Petty takes the stage on Saturday, and John Mayer will perform ahead of Sunday headliners Dave Matthews Band. moe., Spoon, Josh Ritter and Lupe Fiasco all appear on Saturday. Sunday boasts The Black Crowes, Flogging Molly, The Roots and Ingrid Michaelson (a 4 to Watch alum).
Local talents Meese, Born In The Flood and Railbenders, amongst others, will represent Denver’s own music scene.
The festival includes an artist market and food from local restaurants. Organizers are encouraging green(er) transportation for festivalgoers by creating a carpool-only parking lot with VIP and artist meet-and-greet passes available as a prize for one car in that lot.
