If you're looking to ride the lightning down to penny lane on a plastic guitar, you're going to have to wait, according to siblings and RedOctane founders Kai and Charles Huang. Despite the hordes of rumors circulating on the Internet (And watch out; that Internet is crazypants!) stating Metallica will be featured in a standalone game similar to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the brothers Huang preempted the hearsay, for now: "We're not ready to comment about Metallica yet, but what I will say is
that we'd love to work with all of the top rock bands of all time,
whether it's Aerosmith or Metallica or AC/DC or Led Zeppelin. If we get an opportunity to work with those bands, we would love to do that." A Metallica song, "One," was featured in Guitar Hero 3.
They remained equally tight-lipped when asked about the possibility of bringing the music of the Fab Four to their iconic video game franchise: "Unfortunately, those are rumors right now and we don't have any comments yet. Everybody
in the world has tried to get the Beatles to put their music on all
kinds of different platforms, and it certainly would be exciting, but
it's also a difficult challenge."
RedOctane is set to release Guitar Hero: World Tour this fall as a return volley to the success of rival Rock Band. In addition to new instruments, the game will also add a "music studio" that allows players to write and record songs, and share them online.
While you're flexing your fingers and practicing your fretwork for those marathon sessions of "Battery," "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Enter Sandman" that will no doubt be induced by a Metallica Guitar Hero game, here's a scary thought: How funny would it be if Guitar Hero: Metallica was nothing but tracks from Load and St. Anger? Ok, that's not really funny, but for what it's worth, worse things have happened to Metallica.

Not to be too much of a stickler, but it's "hearsay", as in you say what you hear.
Oopies. Thanks for the catch. Fixed now.
