P. T. Anderson to direct Rudolph, Armisen on stage

After Largo at the Coronet sent out this cryptic e-mail newsletter to its subscribers, we started wondering just what director Paul Thomas Anderson is up to:

*Largo at the Coronet… Breaking News…….*

Well hello there! We’re making an announcement right here and now that we’ve yet to release to the general public: on Aug. 5th & 6th Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen will be appearing together in a performance co-written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

So what is this? What’s the deal? *We’re not tellin’ nothin’ more.* All we’ll say is this: trust us, you won’t regret it. You’re welcome to call the theatre to purchase tickets with your credit card… or bring cash only on the night of the shows.

What kind of a mystery is this? On the heels of Oscar-winner There Will Be Blood, Anderson is certainly permitted to take a wacky break directing SNL cast members Rudolph (also Anderson's longtime partner) and Armisen for the stage. But whatever the end product yields is likely to be worth suffering the trust-us-now-ask-questions-later approach.
