Robin Williams in talks for political biopic

Robin Williams in talks for political biopic

In his tenure as America's hairiest leading man (pre-Seth Rogen), or perhaps America's leadingest hairy man (with a notable exception), Robin Williams has embraced the medical, the anti-temporal, and the professorial. But now, "One Hour" Robin will take on a new cinematic challenge: politics.

Well, OK, besides Man of the Year. Williams is in talks to star in The Prince of Providence, a film about the legendary (and legendarily corrupt) "Buddy" Cianci, the mayor of Providence from 1975 to 1984 and 1991 to 2002.

Oliver Platt will play the mayor himself, and he'll be joined by Dermot Mulroney and Ed Burns, amongst others. The legendary (and legendarily not corrupt) David Mamet adapted the screenplay from Michael Stanton's book of the same title. Hopefully, Williams will not be playing Cianci's wacky doctor, age-reversing son, or wise professor. If, however, Cianci had a creepy photo clerk at his local Wal-Mart, Williams is just the right man for the part.
