The Sea and Cake announces new album

As far as band names go, The Sea and Cake is a rather soothing one.  The sea brings about a relaxing feeling of simply drifting without concret location. And cake, well, who doesn't like cake? Combine the two and you get a deliciously peaceful experience, as well as an acutely accurate description of the group's music.

In sharp contrast is the name of the Sea and Cake's upcoming album, Car Alarm. It will be the Chicago group's eighth studio album, one on which the band promises sounds that will be, though not quite car alarm in magnitude, different than what many fans have come to expect.

Frontman Sam Prekop told Billboard.com the album, "does feel much more upbeat and as much in your face as the Sea and Cake can be."

Fun Fact: The band's name is actually drummer John McEntire's (also of Tortise) aural misinterpretation of his former band Gastr del Sol's "The C in Cake."

The album is set for release on Oct. 21. Let's hope the band's new-found sound puts the "a" in "awesome."
