The Time reunites (again), plans album

| | Comments (0)
Since being harvested from Minneapolis R&B band Flyte Tyme by Prince in 1981, The Time has broken up and re-formed somewhere around four times (we lost count after the third line-up change), the most recent of which was its gig filling in for Toni Braxton at the 50th Grammy Awards this past February.
Here comes the big number five (or, again, whatever number it is), then. The Time will begin a stint playing at Las Vegas's Flamingo Hotel today, the string of dates extending into August.

It seems that time (see what we did there) has mended some of the strife from the band's past. As far as which Time line-up will be entertaining the gambling elite, drummer Jellybean Johnson got philosophical with PopMatters: “Everybody’s in a good place. Of course, we’re all 50 years old. You should be at this point.”

The band isn't just ready to relive past sonic glories, either. Plans to tour after releasing a new album this fall are in the works. A title? A tracklisting? A concept?  Who will sing? Will Prince be involved again?

Johnson is having none of it. "It’s a 12-step approach," he says. "One day at a time.”
