Watchmen trailer released online

It seems only appropriate that no more than two weeks after Merriam-Webster added "fanboy" to its dictionary ("boy who is an enthusiastic devotee, such as of comics or movies," if you're scoring at home), the trailer for the most celebrated graphic novel in history, Watchmen, debuted online (as well as at showings of some little-known arthouse flick called The Dark Knight).

Yes, Zack Snyder's (of 300 fame) highly anticipated adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' comic-turned-graphic-novel is finally ready for the world (or at least two minutes and 10 seconds of it is). And we get our glimpses into the transformation (literally and figuratively) of Dr. Manhattan.

Set to the ominous background music of the Smashing Pumpkins "The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning," the teaser focuses on capturing individual frames of the comic as opposed to one drawn out scene and that voice guy.

"We've got to give them some pictures, because to me the debate is about how close to the graphic novel will the movie be," Snyder told MTV. "We've just really been trying hard to get the movie as in spirit of the graphic novel as possible, so I wanted to show pictures right now so people can go, 'Wow, I recognize that frame.'"
