Danish provocateur Lars von Trier has been surprisingly quiet since releasing The Boss of it All in 2006. Reports of his depression slowing down production seem to have some truth to them. Luckily, it looks like he's gotten back to work and, from the look of things, back to riling up audiences with his next project, Antichrist.
The film tells an alternate creation story for the world where Satan
rather than God created existence. It will star William Dafoe and
Charlotte Gainsbourg as parents who retreat into the woods after their
son dies. The irony
here is that Dafoe played Jesus Christ in Martin Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ, which might not have anything to do with the casting, but knowing von Trier, it's a possibility.
Von Trier has said that he hopes Antichrist will be his most
commercial film and, given the uproar this is likely to cause when
released, he just might be right. Production is set to begin in
Germany at the end of month.
