Gringo Star announces debut LP release, tours

Without a doubt, Gringo Star was the most dramatic act at Atlanta's 2008 Corndogorama. When they overshot the end of their set time by more than 20 minutes, the sound technicians at the outdoor stage pulled the plug on all their equipment-- microphones, amps, P.A., lights, everything. The fit that followed seemed justified to the enthralled audience: It was an unfairly premature end to one of the most enjoyable sets of the weekend, but it certainly was a spectacle.

Like so many angrily deactivated microphones, the quartet has been throwing around promises of a debut LP for months. They'll finally follow through with All Y'all, set for release November 4 on My Anxious Mouth Records.

At best, All Y'all can only attempt to bottle the explosive energy Gringo Star generates on stage. The two Furgiuele brothers, Peter and Nicholas (whose surname inspired the group's original name, A Fir-Ju Well), and bandmates Pete DeLorenzo and Matt McCalvin rarely stay on the same instrument two songs in a row. Everybody plays everything and takes a turn singing lead (as well as elaborate harmonic backup), creating one of the most dynamic performance experiences around.

Having recently opened for the reconstituted Blind Melon, Gringo Star is taking their Southern-fried guitar pop around the eastern U.S. through October, then hopping the pond for a string of stops in the U.K. The dates include a two-day stand at the Star Bar to celebrate the record release.

All Y'all was produced and mixed by Ben H. Allen (Gnarls Barkley, The Hives, Animal Collective), who's now serving a stint in the newest Atlanta buzz band, The Constellations, which released its debut Southern Gothic last week.
