Kevin Smith will debut his Porno next month

It’s been a long and hard road, but director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) will show his latest film, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, at the Fantastic Fest next month.

The film, a comedy about friends (Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks) who make a porn film for some fast cash but quickly discover they harbor feelings for each other, got slapped with the kiss-of-death NC-17 rating back in July. Since then, Smith cut two of the most questionable sex scenes down a bit and got the rating toned down to R. To put things in perspective, no film rated NC-17 has ever grossed more than $21 million (the infamous Showgirls topped out at $20.4 million).

Zack and Miri will be the first of over 100 films to play at the Austin-based Fantastic Fest, and Smith will be present for a Q&A following its Sept. 18 U.S. premiere. Rogen can currently be seen doing what he does best (which is to say, playing a stoner) in Pineapple Express. Hilariously, the 34-year-old Banks will next portray Laura Bush in the Oliver Stone film W. just two weeks before Zack and Miri Make a Porno hits theaters on Halloween. Seeing Laura Bush and "porno" in the same sentence? Now that’s scary.
