Margaret Cho hits up Lifetime, VH1 in two new series

The Notorious C.H.O. is about to take over the small screen in a way befitting the title of her 2002 stand-up comedy movie. That is, in a new reality show and a Lifetime series, of course.

Comedian Margaret Cho is the newest addition to the cast of Drop Dead Diva, a new show about what happens when a model dies and her soul lives on in the body of another woman, in this case a lawyer named Jane played by Brooke Elliott. Cho will play Jane’s assistant, and Jackson Hurst will play another lawyer in Jane’s firm.

Cho’s other project is billed by as a "reality-sitcom" show, The Cho Show (Real or sitcom? We’re not sure). Premiering Aug. 21, the series “will follow the irrepressible Margaret Cho and her eccentric entourage as she fights to be herself in an industry that in the past wanted her to be something other than herself,” according to VH1, the show’s network. It will also include Cho’s “somewhat traditional Korean parents,” who feature prominently between sexual jokes in her stand-up routines.

The last time Cho had her own show was 1994’s All American Girl. Since then, she’s done stand up tours, appeared on TV shows, and acted in movies like One Missed Call. Safe to say, VH1 and Lifetime are about to get slightly more notorious.
