Chances are, if you're reading this story, you're a U2 fan. Not merely because a news item with the phrase "New U2 album" in its headline tends to attract followers of Bono and Co., but also because U2 is a quintessential
Paste band. Just look at that
poll on the lefthand side of your screen (scroll down a bit...to the bottom of the page). That poll was
supposed to be about Brian Eno, but those sneaky Irish gentlemen up and stole the whole show! At the time of this writing,
The Joshua Tree is straight up annihilating its Eno-affiliated competition by a margin of 19% or more. Well played, U2. Well. Played.
What is this long-winded explanation leading up to, you've surely asked yourself by now? Well, essentially that you'll probably be happy to know that U2's next album, allegedly titled
No Line On the Horizon, will hit store shelves on Nov. 14. We say "allegedly" because UK paper
The Sunday Mirror says that is "believed" to be the title. However, the story also reports that the url NoLineOnTheHorizon.com has been registered by Universal Records. Now, this doesn't necessarily set the news in stone. After all, last we checked,
Big Bad Voody Daddy doesn't have any lines on its horizon either, whatever that means. Maybe UMG is saving that website for the band that brought us such notable singles as "Go Daddy-O" and "You and Me and the Bottle Makes Three Tonight." Then again, maybe not.
Meanwhile, rumored song titles on the rumored record include "Moment of Surrender," "For Your Love," "Love is All We Have Left," "One Bird," "If I Could Live My Life Again," "The Cedars of Lebanon" and a title track. Additionally, as of a couple weeks ago, a film crew was reportedly shooting the video for the first single (the title track) in Cadiz, Spain. With director
Anton Corbijn, no less, Spinner
reports.
Finally, producer Daniel Lanois told Spinner earlier in the year that the record might end up under the influence of a certain rock 'n' roll legend. "We've been referencing Jimi Hendrix records," he said. "I was interested in the drum feels and that track 'Crosstown Traffic'
has an incredible drum performance. We wanted to hear some of that
Mitch Mitchell drumming."
Granted, this is all very speculative, but you're a U2 fan, right? Especially if you made it to the end of this story. Rumor news is still news...sort of. Now, go impress your friends with the newfound knowledge. Tell 'em
