On Sunday, more than 10,000 runners are expected to participate in the Nike+ Human Race Chicago, being touted as the "World's Biggest One-Day Running Event"-- and it's not too late to join them.
The 10K course flanks the Field Museum campus, routes around Lakeshore
Drive
and culminates at Soldier Field where runners can see Chicago’s own
Fall Out Boy in concert. Middle distance runner Dathan Ritzenhein will
also attend the local festivities. While several cities are already
sold out, Chicagoans can still register at NikePlus.com.
In addition to the music and global run, a portion of the event proceeds will give back to the world. Participants can choose from three beneficiaries: the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund and NineMillion.org, the UN refugee agency's campaign to bring athletics and education to refugee youth.
The event is expected to raise at least $3 million for the Nike+ Human Race charities via registration fees, a percentage of Nike+ Human Race T-shirt sales and a donation of USD $1 million from Nike, plus additional funds raised by individual runners.
