Not that we were betting against it, but it turns out that Paste Emergent artist Ingrid Michaelson has got some philanthropic game to go along with those cooing acoustic tracks she self-released last September on breakout Girls and Boys.
On Oct. 14, Michaelson's own Cabin 24 Records will release Be OK, a benefit album featuring previously unreleased songs, including covers of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" and live recordings of songs like the hit "The Way I Am."
Two of the album's tracks are to be a radio mix and an acoustic version of Michaelson's song "Be OK," which will serve as a hopeful guiding ethos for this cancer-awareness project. A portion of proceeds will go to Stand Up To Cancer, an online initiative working to fund cancer research, whose publicity already features involvement from Jodie Foster, Susan Sarandon, Larry David and the cast of The Daily Show. A Stand Up To Cancer special will be nationally televised commercial-free on Sept. 5 on ABS, CBS and NBC.
Said Michaelson in a statement: "Being one of millions with a close connection to cancer, I know I need to do my part." And she'll be doing plenty: her headlining "Be OK" tour will launch following the release of the eponymous album, and "Be OK" necklaces that Michaelson personally designed will be available at tour stops and online, with proceeds going to SU2C.
Tour dates have not yet been announced, but you can temporarily satisfy Ingrid Michaelson yearnings by watching video of a performance she did at Paste HQ recently by clicking here.
