Philip Seymour Hoffman to direct play in London

Former Paste cover boy and Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman (remember 2006's Capote?) is set to direct a play in London's West End at Trafalgar Studios.

Riflemind, which opens Sept. 15 and was written by Andrew Upton, explores the reunion of a rock band 20 years after its last show. Upton and wife Cate Blanchett are artistic directors of Sydney Theatre Company.

The play stars Scottish actor John Hannah, whom you may recall from The Mummy series and Four Weddings and a Funeral, or from Harbour Beat (1990), which you probably don't remember at all.

Hoffman is co-artistic director of LAByrinth Theater Company in New York City, and has also directed a number of other plays, including The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot, In Arabia We’d All Be Kings and Jesus Hopped The ‘A’ Train. He also stars in the forthcoming Charlie Kaufman project, Synechdoche, NY.
