Playlist announced for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

In the beginning, there was Garden State, and it was nice film. But then music blogs made fun of Natalie Portman's throwaway line, and hipsters cast Zach Braff into the pit of eternal condescension, never to reenter the kingdom of good graces. But lo', it was prophesied that a child from the OC (don't call it that) would arise and deliver redemption to awkward music-loving introverts everywhere. His name was Michael Cera, and on his right hand was Juno.

Now it looks like Michael Cera is looking to usurp the crown of cool movie soundtracks from... Michael Cera. His upcoming music-centric romantic comedy Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist just revealed details about its, ahem, playlist, and it's a doozy from the looks of its press release:

"[The album] features tracks from some of indie rock's best and brightest, including Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, We Are Scientists, Bishop Allen, and Devendra Banhart... In addition to songs by such artists as Richard Hawley, The Real Tuesday Weld, and the late, great Chris Bell, the soundtrack also features a previously unreleased tune from L.A.-based newcomers Army Navy, as well as an exclusive selection from the film's score, performed by its legendary composer, Mark Mothersbaugh."

The soundtrack is available for pre-order on Atlantic Records' online store beginning Aug. 26, and will hit brick-and-mortar stores in CD and vinyl format on Sept. 23. Why pre-order? Good question. The first 200 people to sign up for the album will get a limited Nick and Norah shirt, that will no doubt give you serious cred points in certain Cera-obsessed circles.

Maybe this will be the movie that finally changes our lives. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist hits theaters Oct. 3.
