They're heeeeeeeeere. Horror movies are experiencing something of a renaissance with the recent boom of imports and remakes that studios are ponying up for. Continuing in this grand and gory tradition, MGM Studios has hired ace horror writers Stiles White and Juliet Snowden to write the screenplay of the upcoming Poltergeist remake.
The movie's infamy lived long past its debut on the silver screen when two of the child actors in the film died, which led many to proclaim that the film was cursed.
Horror remakes may usually err on the schlocky side, but fans of the Spielberg classic can rest a little bit easier knowing that Snowden and White are old hands penning thrillers, together no less. The duo co-wrote the 2005 flick Boogeyman, as well as the upcoming Knowing. They also contributed to an unrealized remake of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.

Why is Hollywood bent on running everything through their de-entertainment machine? The old maxim used to go, "if it aint broke, don't fix it." But now Hollywood, which ran out of new ideas somewhere around "Birth of a Nation," has got it in their head that all a good movie needs is a bad remake. Whatever you do don't spruce up the original print and re-release it. My God, that would save money and leave the original film's reputation in tact.
