SciFi announces another Battlestar Galactica movie

With the end of Battlestar Galactica finally in sight, the SciFi Channel is putting out a variety of spin-offs to capitalize on its success. Not only is there the upcoming Caprica pilot, but following on the success of Razor between seasons three and four it looks like the network is planning on another flashback movie (AKA: special). Since SciFi doesn't own the film rights to Galactica, the films have to be shown on television before being released on DVD.

The movie, not yet titled, will focus on what happened on Caprica before Kara Thrace arrived and helped to evacuate the remaining survivors, as well as the immediate planning for the attack. Normally the star of the show, Edward James Olmos will instead be filling the director's chair as shooting begins in Vancuver at the end of the summer. It'll be a while before this is out, though, as the special is set to air following the conclusion of the series some time in 2009.
