It looks like there's quite an industry popping up around giant robot-based entertainment (some of it ironic). Like so many disparate robotic lions, the once-shattered dreams of a Voltron movie have reassembled into an anthropomorphization of our postwar insecurities. Yes, true believers, the Voltron movie is going to happen, for really reals this time.
The movie is described as a "post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and
end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the
massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders." All right, so it's not exactly loyal to the source material, but it's not like they had a lot to work with.
Details remain sketchy at this point, but Relativity Media looks like they'll be backing the project, utilizing what are termed the "cost-effective technology" of movies like 300. Could this mean giant robots with well-oiled chests in leather bikini briefs? Somewhere, thousands of fanfiction writers are pounding their keyboards in fevered anticipation.
