Announced recently via the band's website, bassist/keyboard player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett have decided to leave Wolfmother, citing irreconcilable personal and musical differences as the cause. The Grammy Award winning Austrailian rock band has been in the midst of dissension for some time now, even taking an extended break in 2007, after touring for over a year, to determine what the future held for the group.
Having sold over 1.3 million copies of its self-titled debut as well as earning a Grammy for best hard rock performance last year, fans were already looking forward to the band's next album, which the trio began working on earlier this year. After regrouping and recording new matieral the band seemed to be doing well, but tensions could not be settled, and, after a recent headlining slot at Splendour in the Grass Festival, Ross decided to say goodbye and Heskett followed "rather than continuing as part of a changed line-up."
Guitarist/Vocalist Andrew Stockdale still intends to record under the Wolfmother name and will begin searching for replacements. Despite the separation, the three members have stated that "they are each really looking forward to making their new music over the years ahead" and ask all Wolfmother fans to "please understand that in spite of their best efforts over a long period of time, they just could not find a harmonious way to work together and that has lead to the decisions announced."
