Ira Glass, Paul Simon, others to host 826NYC benefit

826NYC, brainchild of McSweeny's wizard David Eggers, will be having its third annual Bookeaters benefit next month to raise money for their children's writing program. The program has attracted the likes of David Byrne, Sufjan Stevens and Feist in years past, and this year's line-up looks no less impressive.

The guest list is a veritable who's who of authors and artists: Thao Nguyen, Paul Simon, Zach Rogue of Rogue Wave, and Grizzly Bear side project Department of Eagles will all be playing live. Ira Glass is scheduled to read a short story and David Eggers will wax philosophic on the purpose of Bookeaters, and The Daily Show correspondent John Oliver will be emceeing and serving up some acerbic barbs. Whew.

Proceeds from the show go to 826NYC, a program designed to encourage and improve children's writing skills. It's all going down Oct. 7, so if you're interested in children's literacy, music, writing or any combination thereof, clear your calendar and head over to New York's Town Hall at 8PM.
